Salt Lake

Park City is only 40 minutes from Salt Lake, so we took a day trip to see Temple Square. The grounds were beautiful, and we enjoyed walking around seeing the buildings. There were Mormon missionaries everywhere, but we managed to avoid getting sucked into a presentation.

At City Creek Center, a big shopping center that the LDS own. It was upscale and seems to feed the consumerism mentality of Utah Mormons.

The Beehive house. where Brigham Young and his many wives lived

Later that evening, we took in a free concert at Deer Valley. It was a fun atmosphere, people everywhere were having picnics, and kids were running around and playing games.

Fun at the Olympic Park

Park City and Salt Lake were home to the 2002 Winter Olympics. Park City is home to the Olympic Park, which hosted the bobsled, skeleton, luge, and ski jumping. The park is now used as an Olympic training site, and has fun activities for non-Olympic hopefuls. We spent a fun afternoon there, and the boys had a pass to try out all sorts of fun things.

They run the  bobsled in the summer on wheels. They averaged 65 mph!

Hudson's favorite part of the ropes course was the zip line back.

Brooks accepted the challenge of the advance ropes course. He did great!

Acting Fancy

We headed over to Deer Valley one evening to visit the St Regis. The hotel is accessed by riding a funicular up the side of the mountain

The main reason we were there was for the free smores they have every night. While we were waiting for that to start, we wandered around the resort. I took Hudson out to see what cool cars were at the valet. When the valets found out Hudson was into cars, they invited him to check out the Maserati they had. They even suggest photo poses for him! They were nice guys and told him about the various cars they have parked. Hudson was most excited to hear about the Bugatti that visits every couple weeks!

Brooks found a 911 on the way back down.

We all enjoyed the smores, they even had peanut butter cups to make them with. We'd never thought of doing that before.

Cheyenne

On the way to Utah, we spent a night in Cheyenne Wyoming. I honestly wasn't expecting much, but ended up being surprised by the city. It's the capitol of Wyoming, but small. The state capitol building was smaller than the county courthouse in Lafayette! The town had a cool cowboy meets hipster vibe.  We stayed at the Little America, which was a little old school, but really nice. We chowed down on steak for dinner, we were hungry after being in the car for 15 hours and after all we were in beef country. Next stop, Park City Utah!
